Afro-Indigenous Representation in Film & Television w/ Chad Charlie, Tina Lameman & Adeline Bird

Afro-Indigenous filmmakers Chad Charlie, Adeline Bird and Tina Lameman discuss AI representation in film and TV, the complexities and beauty of our stories, and the future of AI storytelling. 


Adeline Bird is an author, filmmaker, and producer and is a proud Rolling River First Nations member who grew up in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Adeline is a graduate of the National Screen Institute’s CBC New Indigenous Voices program, where she made short films Nappy Hair and Eagle Feather, now featured on CBC Gem. She is a 2018 imagiNATIVE/APTN Pitch winner, with her web series iNdigiThreads, and was part of the 2019 cohort of Telefilm Canada’s Talent To Watch. Adeline sits on the Visioning Committee of BIPOC TV & Film and is an advocate and thought leader in the ongoing discussions on equity & inclusion in the Canadian media industry.

Chad Charlie is an Afro-Indigenous filmmaker from Ahousaht First Nation. Beginning his career in 2008 as a stand-up comedian and spoken word artist, he now extends the same passion for poetry and humor in his writing for TV and film, currently writing for the new television series Reservation Dogs.

Chad has directed several short films. The most recent of which, Firecracker Bullets, will be set for the 2022 festival season.

Tina Lameman is a proud African Canadian/Cree Actress who grew up on the Beaver Lake Cree Nation in Northeast Alberta, Canada. Tina studied Theatre briefly at Grant McEwan Theatre Arts in Edmonton and attended Film Acting with Zocalo Theatre. Tina Lameman was the Alberta Motion Picture Industry Association (Rosie) winner for Best Actress 2008 for her breakthrough role on Mixed Blessings with Prairie Dog Films, Produced–Directed by Ron E. Scott.
