Richard J Curtis

Richard J Curtis is an award-winning filmmaker, writer, director, and cinematographer with over 35 years’ experience and a deep expertise in Māori storytelling. His accolades include the Live Action Short Award for Rapido at the 2025 imagineNATIVE Film + Media Arts Festival, Best Short Film for Ahi Kā at the 2014 Hawaii International Film Festival, and co-directing the acclaimed feature We Are Still Here, which won the Dramatic Feature Award at the 2022 imagineNATIVE Film + Media Arts festival. Richard has directed the long-running factual reality series, Hunting Aotearoa, as well as drama series Kairākau and End of the Valley. As a co-founder of the Steambox Film Collective, Richard is a leading voice in Indigenous Cinema.
