Tasha Hubbard is an award-winning filmmaker from Peepeekisis First Nation. Hubbard's Canadian Screen Award-winning nipawistamâsowin: We Will Stand Up opened Hot Docs in 2019, and was the first-ever Indigenous-directed film to do so. The film took home the festival's Best Canadian Feature prize and screened theatrically across Canada and at festivals around the world, with Hubbard winning the DGC Discovery Award for her direction and the Canadian Screen Award for Best Feature Length Documentary.

With her acclaimed Birth of a Family, Hubbard sensitively parsed the legacy of the Sixties Scoop: a practice which saw more than 20,000 Indigenous babies removed from their birth families. Hubbard is also an Associate Professor at the University of Alberta. Her research and advocacy in support of Indigenous efforts to return the buffalo to the lands is the focus of her latest documentary feature, Singing Back The Buffalo, which premiered in early 2024.
